Foundation: Motor Vehicle Pathway

Develop your skills in motor vehicle servicing with a hands-on course that gives you all the basics from engine lubrication to valeting.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is delivered at our Technology Campus at Blackbird Leys.

With the Foundation Pathway in Motor Vehicle, you can kickstart a career in this exciting sector as you learn the skills needed to progress; combining practical skills and theory so you can expand your knowledge and training. You will also be given the opportunity to gain English, Maths and IT qualifications alongside the programme.

Upon completion of the course, you can progress to a higher-level study programme at college, or onto an apprenticeship. We can give you advice and information to help you plan your next step, whether you would like to study another course in the college or somewhere else, or are looking to enter employment.

We will provide you with the opportunity to develop vital employability and independence skills through our learning companies. Our partnerships with external organisations and employers are central to giving you the tools you need to have a successful future.

You learn the basic knowledge to progress towards the minimum qualifications or skill levels required for entry into industry. Topics covered are:

Engine lubrication, engine cooling, fuel and exhaust systems, spark ignition systems, electrical systems, braking systems, transmission systems, steering and suspension systems, wheel and tyre systems, bench fitting, introduction to vehicle technology and workshop methods and processes, and basic routine vehicle maintenance.

This Entry 3 and Level 1 award builds on the entry level units and allows you to broaden your practical skills.

The course combines practical skills and theory so you can develop your knowledge and expertise, making good progress in your motor vehicle training.

You are assessed by practical and job knowledge assessment on the different units of the course.

The only entry requirement is that you have a successful interview with a member of the course team in order to ensure that we can fully meet your needs

We are looking for young people with an enthusiasm to learn and a desire to make progress. We want applicants to actively take part in keep warm activities set by teachers before starting in September
