Welcoming The Leys College into Activate Learning

We’re excited to let you know that the Technology Campus in Blackbird Leys will become a standalone college from September and will be known as The Leys College.

This follows on from extensive research and consultation carried out earlier this year.

The new name has been chosen to reflect the local community, which includes both Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys, enabling us to strengthen the college’s identity and foster a deeper sense of belonging into the communities it serves.

Further advantages

The transition from a campus to a standalone college presents an opportunity to:

  • Create a distinct identity for the college that reflects its current academic offer.
  • Further raise the profile of the campus in Oxfordshire and beyond.
  • Attract local students in the area and support social and community cohesion.
  • Enhance the sense of pride among staff and students who contribute to its success.

Next steps

New signage will be installed across the campus, followed by a new website and an official launch event later this year.

Gary Headland DL, CEO, said: “This is a significant milestone for the Leys area, and I’m optimistic about the positive role Activate Learning will continue to play in strengthening community connections.

“Located at the heart of both Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys, The Leys College is perfectly positioned to become a central hub for learning and collaboration. I look forward to seeing the college serve local residents and the wider Oxfordshire community for many years to come.”

We look forward to preparing for a new chapter that celebrates The Leys College’s distinctiveness and potential for growth.
