Foundation Supporting Society (Including Health, Childcare, and Public Services)

Prepare for a future in health, childcare and public services while prioritising the development of English, maths and IT skills. This pathway supports learners to build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress to further study, training or employment.

On the Foundation Supporting Society Pathway, you will learn through project-based and practical activities, with assessment taking place continuously rather than through formal exams. Projects are designed around realistic health, childcare and public service scenarios, helping you develop confidence, practical skills and an understanding of how these sectors support individuals and communities.

Alongside your vocational learning, you will work towards improving your English, maths and IT skills, which are essential for success in further study and employment.

You will be supported by experienced staff throughout the programme and will receive advice and guidance to help you plan your next steps, whether that is progressing within the college, moving on to an apprenticeship or entering employment.

We work in partnership with external organisations and employers to ensure learning and project work reflect the skills, behaviours and expectations of the health, childcare and public service sectors.

On this course, you will learn:

  • An introduction to health, childcare and public service roles
  • Communication skills for supporting children, adults and communities
  • Safeguarding, equality and professional behaviour
  • Teamwork, responsibility and problem-solving skills
  • English, maths and digital skills contextualised to supporting society roles
  • Project-based learning using realistic sector scenarios
  • Practical activities and group tasks
  • Research and discussion activities linked to real-life situations
  • Continuous assessment through portfolios and project work
  • Regular feedback and individual target-setting with your tutor

On successful completion of the course, learners may progress to a Level 2 programme in Health and Social Care, Childcare or Public Services, move on to an apprenticeship, or enter employment or volunteering opportunities within these sectors.

There are no formal entry requirements. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in supporting others, a willingness to learn and a commitment to developing their skills and confidence.
