City of Oxford College and University Centre would like to congratulate the 46 students who passed their T Levels qualifications today.
In September 2021, Activate Learning became one of the first providers to offer the brand-new T Levels qualification in Oxfordshire. City of Oxford College and University Centre started offering two T Levels pathways in September 2021, in Health (Adult Nursing) and Digital Production, Design and Development.
Today, the college celebrates their second cohort of T Levels students completing their second year, with two of the subjects at City of Oxford College and University Centre having secured 100% pass rates.
Cheri Ashby, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Activate Learning said: “Today, we are delighted to congratulate our T Levels students on achieving their qualifications.
“Compared to last year, over double the number of students are now studying these qualifications in areas such as Digital Production, Design and Development, Health, Management and Administration and Engineering.
“This year we have seen our pass rates increase to 7% above the national rates published in the media today, and more students achieving higher grades.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our managers, teachers and support staff who have worked incredibly hard with our students to achieve these qualifications.
“Our teachers bring their industry knowledge and expertise to enrich our students’ learning and their dedication and commitment to supporting our students is inspiring.
“At the heart of our approach to teaching, learning and assessment is our Learning Philosophy which recognises the importance of students increased motivation when the curriculum they are studying is relevant and can be directly applied to the world of work.
“As an organisation, we are committed to delivering high quality technical education and T Levels are one of these qualifications. The programmes of health, digital and engineering are of course important in contributing to the local skills priorities of our economies.”
Philippa Stroud achieved a Distinction grade in her Health (Adult Nursing) T Level. She will now take up an offer to study a Midwifery degree at Oxford Brookes University.
Phillipa said: “I kid you not, I started crying when I got my results, it was amazing and really relieving to know that all the hard work I put in over the last two years paid off.
“In the first year, I was in a local care home and in the second year I worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in a neuroscience ward. I really looked forward to going into placement every week.
“My teacher, Brenda, was an absolute saint and she believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I don’t think I’d have the grade I do know if it wasn’t for her. I’d 100% recommend T Levels to other people considering their options.”
Kieran Dass achieved a Merit grade in his Business: Management and Administration T Level. He will shortly start a Level 3 Electrical Apprenticeship programme.
Kieran said: “I was quite relaxed coming up to results day, and I was quite pleasantly surprised with my results as they were better than what I had expected.
“I think the work placement was highly beneficial as it gave me an insight and understanding as to what working life is actually like, doing finance in my work placement made me realise that sitting behind a desk was not for me helping me realise what I actually wanted to do being an electrician.
“The T Level course was a good experience that helped me grow and I learnt a lot, not only in an academic sense but also it helped me to learn more about myself as a person.
“I would like to thank my teachers, especially Lindsay, for helping me get through these past two years and teaching me lots of things.”
Kane Ashfield achieved a Merit grade in his Digital Production, Design and Development T Level. He will be starting an apprenticeship or employment.
Kane said: “I was very happy and excited, I went with my friend who is on the same course, and we opened them up together in my car and I was so happy with what I got. I felt like all the hard work was worth it and a weight had been lifted.
“My plans now is to seek for an apprenticeship or either a full time job within the lines of what I’ve studied and gained experience from during my placement.
“My placement was extremely beneficial as it introduced me to understanding different types of roles during my experience and learning different types of networking in the industry. Fortunately, I was able to spend the 315 hours of work with two other friends from college and this helped me majorly improve my understanding and we progressed as a team. I also had the opportunity to work with my work experience company in doing a paid summer job which was also rewarding.
“I would recommend others to study T Levels as personally, it’s helped me mentally become much stronger and understand the world of IT and programming. It helps with setting up a future for yourself as you can access so many different opportunities while studying.
“Thank you so much to Pradeep for being someone to look up-to as a teacher and as someone who is very strong and independent. Without your skill, guidance and knowledge, I don’t believe I would have been able to pass. Also another big thank you to my teacher, Craig, for making lessons fun and exciting and introducing different types of team building and self improvement. Another thank you to Promise for being so vibrant and bringing great levels of energy to the class room.”
Naqib Ibrahim achieved a Merit grade in his Digital Production, Design and Development T Level. He will now take up an offer to study a Computer Science degree with a European industry placement at University of East Anglia (UEA).
Naqib said: “I had a very positive reaction to my results and was relieved to have it all over and done with.
“The placement was good and it was nice to get a head start into industry. It gave me a push into the subject which has been hugely beneficial. I’d definitely recommend T Levels to other people.”
Neil Brookes, Executive Director Faculties and Colleges (North) at Activate Learning, said: “We would like to extend huge congratulations to all students collecting such fantastic T Levels results today.
“These results mark the end of a two-year journey for our students who have worked so hard with our employer partners in the Engineering, Health and Care and the Digital sectors.
“Students have benefitted from full industry immersion alongside their theoretical learning. They have had the opportunity to work closely with, and under the supervision of, industry experts. This opportunity brings to life their classroom-based learning experiences and ensures they are familiar with the most up to date ways of working and can practice in state-of-the-art settings in authentic learning situations.
“Students receiving results today are in the best position to progress onto their next steps with great confidence and preparedness for success in higher education or in the workplace. Whichever route they take, we look forward to following their achievements in the years to come.
“Sincere thank you, too, goes to our employer partners who have played a significant role in supporting students to achieve these fantastic outcomes.”
