South Central Institute of Technology

Enter the technology industry on the front foot, with a new breed of qualifications.

Welcome to the South Central Institute of Digital Technology (IoT)

Activate Learning is excited to announce our collaborative partnership with Milton Keynes College to deliver the new South Central Institute of Technology, working with leading brands such as Microsoft, KPMG, McAfee, Cranfield University, and Evidence Talks.

Activate Learning will be hosting two, state-of-the-art hubs at our Blackbird Leys Technology Campus in Oxford and at our Reading College campus.

Our vision is  to  increase the  representation of black and ethnic minorities, women and other under-represented groups  within the sector and make it more representative of the modern society we live in. We will create an environment for new thinking and enable  you and other  talented and gifted people to  fulfil  their potential in technical training and find careers in the digital and technology sectors.

Employer demand for digital technology skills and knowledge is increasing, and non-digital technology companies are becoming more reliant on digital technology specialists as business requirements evolve. Skills shortages in key areas of the digital economy mean there are many different IT careers available for people with the relevant qualifications and experience.

Key growth areas within the IT and computing industry include social and digital media, data protection, cyber security, games design, website development and cloud/mobile technologies. The south-east of England is home to many global IT companies, so you will be well placed for job opportunities and career prospects.

As part of our IOT offering, there will be three apprenticeships and four Higher National Certificate (HNC) qualifications starting in 2021 at our Reading College campus.

What is an IoT?

Institutes of Technology have been designed to create higher level technical qualifications, in partnership with employers to increase productivity and raise the standards of university-level technical education.

Programmes and qualifications available

Our higher apprenticeships take two years to complete. There’s no upper age limit to study an apprenticeship, so they’re perfect if you are looking to change career or to develop in your current role.

Higher National Certificate
A Higher National Certificate is equivalent to the first year of university-level study, delivered full-time in one year or part-time over two years. An HNC can allow progression onto a Higher National Diploma.

Hear an introduction to the Institute of Technology from our Partnership Engagement Manger Holly Perrett.

Holly talks about what degrees and Higher National Certificates (HNCs) we offer, and what you'll be getting up to on the courses.
