Business students welcome US guest speakers to support Entrepreneur and Innovation Pilgrimage project

Level 3 Business students at City of Oxford College recently had the opportunity to welcome guest speaker, Graham Caleb, to their project-based learning sessions, as he launched the Entrepreneur and Innovation Pilgrimage project.

Graham has vast business experience, having worked on executive positions in Unipart, ICL, Kingfisher Group, ASDA and DELL. He is also running his own company CalebAcuity. During his time in California, he worked closely with the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology at UC Berkley, becoming a mentor for students at their Entrepreneur and Innovation Bootcamps.

This project will see students prepare an elevator pitch and present it to the Executive team at college.

Sessions so far have included a virtual guest speaker session with Alex Fred Ojala, who is Chief Data Scientist from UC Berkeley and Amazon – Innovation Award winner. This inspirational session focused on Artificial Intelligence and expertise at Berkeley.

Ambreen Asif, Business teacher at City of Oxford College, said: “Projects are an integral part of our vocational business programmes where we provide an opportunity to our learners to get first-hand experience and insight by working alongside real-life businesses to enrich their learning journey.

“Business students at City of Oxford College believe in learning by doing and have always been engaged with a range of local businesses like Karcher, SOFEA, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford Bus Company.

“This year, we decided to go above and beyond, and liaised with the team of UC Berkeley to launch a project on Enterprise and Innovation. It’s a great opportunity where students learn from the experiences of the top management team of UC Berkeley and put forth their ideas to turn their dreams into reality.”

The sessions are part of Activate Learning’s commitment to offer students the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need for success in their chosen career. In learning from experienced and successful tutors and guest speakers and having ample opportunities to put their skills into practise.
